Inglourious Basterds Movie Review
57
Ah what can I say. Another Tarantino movie. Inglourious Basterds was a down right good time.
The movie revolves in chapters, swinging between two stories that eventually intertwine and connect. The first story follows Shosanna Dreyfus, a jewish woman who after watching her family be murdered by an SS officer escapes their clutches and gets to Paris. By a mere happenstance she is able to plan a trap for a majority of the higher ranking German officers.
The second story revolves around the Basterds. A group of American soldiers brought overseas to do only ony thing.....killin' Natzi's. The group is led by Aldo Raines played hysterically by Brad Pitt. They eventually rendezvous with a double agent to plan an assassination plot on Adolf Hitler.
And in there lies how the two stories intertwine. Running at over 2 1/2 hours, Inglourious Basterds is a fun, comical, and sometimes offensive look at WWII. Now Adolf Hitler is obviously the main villain in this war but not necessarily the main villain in the film.
Christolph Waltz plays SS officer Hans Landa, a smart "Jew Hunter" that is in charge of finding Jews that are still hiding in Nazi occupied France. Waltz plays Landa as a very memorable villain that is cunningly smart and hysterical in nature.
The score in Inglourious Basterds was especially well done. I enjoyed most of the music in the film. One complaint I had was that some of the scenes dragged on much too long. Thats where the bulk of your 2 1/2 hours come from. The scenes are very slow to develop. But funny enough after the scene was over I almost always thought to myself that that was a pretty cool scene. So its a weird thing that I would be interested in hearing others opinions on.
I came into this film expecting a lot of Tarantino esque violence. And while there were the classic Tarantino scenes the violence was not overly used. It fit and was not forced or just thrown in the film to add weight. Many one liners in Inglourious Basterds had me laughing out loud. Very funny movie and a very cool cast of characters. Landa's character should go down as one of the funniest villains in movie history.
My final verdict on Inglourious Basterds 9.1/10
